OpmerkingenMy wife, present at the event, has a Phd in astrophysics and turned around after the initial flash. (She was observing Saturn through an 8 inch reflecting telescope - i happened not to be looking at Saturn but instead at the dark sky directly where the fireball erupted) She missed the terminal flash as well, but saw the smoke trail clearly. She said the smoke trail was near Aquila, below and a little west of Altair.

OpmerkingenThe first flash was bright white and my wife saw it flash off the house even though her back was turned to the meteor. Then the smoke trail glowed white for a bit

OpmerkingenThe terminal flash was green, so vivid that it reminded me of a firework though it clearly was a meteor. There was no fragmentation visible to me.
